FEEDBACK
Week 2- Should finish up the matrix of theme identification
Week 3- Try not to use questions for 5.2 & 5.3- Try not to use questions for 5.2 & 5.3 5.2.1 to 5.2.3 make them about the posters and say how well they portrayed the thriller genre - 5.3.1 should not be most engaging poster, should define engagement/visual appeal and the graphic elements
Week 4- Visual analysis lacks support, must further expand with secondary research- Move the introduction of the movies from 5.2 into their specific sections of the movies- Continue on 5.3- Remove the (RQ1) and (RQ2) in 5.2 and 5.3- Insert the questionnaire questions in 3.2
Week 5- Change “based on secondary research….” - Must include exact words of respondent’s comments- Add relevant literature to 5.2- Can draft up conclusion- Try to finish literature review
Week 6- Change “Based on the survey findings that was conducted….” - Finish literature review- No need to include more respondents’ comments when you have already included the keywords in the paragraphs- Recap research methods, include findings of research and limitations of the study in the conclusion
Week 7- Move survey questionnaire to the appendix - Literature review doesn’t meet the word count of 750 - 850 words- Research articles have to be in APA style citation - Must have figure numbers in picture credits- For visual analysis where researcher identified the font, should just put an image and put in picture credits
Week 8- Independent Learning Week
Week 9- Use the typeface and book cover inspiration from idea 1 and layout inspiration in idea 2
Week 10- Too much space in between for the information on the title page- Change August intake to September intake- For the acknowledgement page, the page on the right should be white with black text and the left page should be one of the chosen colours from the colour schemes (do the same with the abstract page as well)- Body text is slightly too big- Since the chosen typeface is too narrow and soft, should stick to a white background to make it stand out
Week 11- No consultation but worked independently on Task 2
Week 12- No consultation but must have the draft for Task 4 ready from abstract until methodology
Week 13- Submitted the wrong file for Final Dissertation- Delete the last paragraph in the introduction- Should describe and justify the selection of posters in the methodology- Change ‘distributed to 32 people’ in research methodology 2 to something else that doesn’t sound like it was only meant for 32 people- Move the last paragraph of the methodology to conclusion- Finish up the article
Week 14-Discussion doesn’t have any evidence - Picture credits should be by figure number

FINAL REFLECTION
Completing the Design Research Dissertation module has been an intense but rewarding experience that has significantly developed my research and academic writing skills. The iterative process of receiving weekly feedback and revising my work was crucial in shaping my dissertation. One of the biggest challenges I faced was grounding my analysis in secondary research and academic literature. Initially, I relied too heavily on describing my visual analysis and survey results without connecting them to existing studies. The feedback to expand my analysis with more secondary research pushed me to dig deeper into studies on film poster design. This process of finding relevant sources and synthesizing them with my own observations improved the depth and credibility of my work. Not only that, I also struggled with organizing my dissertation in a logical flow. The suggestions that Ms. Jinchi gave me to adjust headings, move sections around and improve transitions were very helpful in creating a clearer narrative structure. For example, moving the introduction of the movies into their specific sections made the flow much smoother. Balancing detail and conciseness was tricky as I had to learn how to include impactful respondent quotes without being repetitive. The feedback to remove redundant comments when key points were already covered helped me streamline my discussion.
The reminders about proper academic formatting like APA citations and figure numbering reinforced good scholarly practices. I definitely improved in this area throughout the process.
As a design student, I found the visual design considerations for the final document interesting. Adjusting typography, layout and colour usage showed me how presentation impacts the readability and professionalism of academic work. Time management was also very crucial, especially using the independent learning periods effectively. Having weekly milestones kept me on track, though it was sometimes stressful to meet deadlines while I had other assignments to finish as well. This module has given me much more confidence in planning and executing a large research study. The skills I've gained in critical analysis, academic writing, and defending methodological choices will be valuable for future academic work or professional projects requiring in-depth research. I've gained a deeper appreciation for the rigor involved in academic research and how important it is to keep refining work through feedback. This module has also enhanced my understanding of graphic design's role in film marketing, providing a solid foundation to potentially explore this area further in my career. Overall, while challenging, this dissertation process has been extremely valuable for my academic and professional development. It pushed me to think more critically, write more clearly and approach design from a more analytical perspective. The skills and knowledge I've gained from this module and Ms. Jinchi will serve me well in future endeavors, whether in further academic study or in my design career.
