REFLECTION
Experience: When this semester first started, I had no idea what Typography was and to be honest I was very intrigued by it. During covid, I have gotten into Graphic Designing and knew I wanted to pursue it ever since. As I only knew of Graphic Designing on a surface level, I was very excited to learn more, but once I started attending Typography classes, I realised that it was harder than I ever expected it to be. There was so much work even at the first week to the point where I felt overwhelmed and unmotivated to do any of the work. As I scrolled through previous' students' E-Portfolio, it made me realise that Typography can be enjoyable as well and I started to gain motivation to work even harder than before and ever since then, I look forward to all my Typography classes and tasks. It was also thanks to Mr. Vinod's feedback and straightforwardness that got my Typography work to improve. If you ask me, I can clearly see the difference in my work from Week 1 compared to Week 13. Overall, this experience wasn't all positive at first but it was definitely eye-opening and I have learnt so much more than I did during covid.
Observation: Throughout the 14 weeks of being in Typography class, I have learnt a lot. I now believe that Typography is a powerful element in design and communication as it influents how messages are perceived. Clear and legible fonts can enhance readability while varied styles can convey how emotions are expressed. These few weeks, I have also observed from my classmates how they all have different interpretations on how they choose to design their work. In general, Typography is a dynamic and evolving field that is essential to compelling and successful designs.
Findings: Typography has the power to breathe life into texts with just a minor tweak or adjustment to the font. No matter the adjustment is the kerning, leading or tracking, it will affect the way the design is portrayed. This class has made me realise how important Typography is to designing something and in the end, I have learnt to genuinely enjoy it.
